Bob Buchta, age 84, a resident of Spooner, and formerly of Anchorage, AK, died on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at his home.

Bob was born on January 10, 1934, in Spooner to parents John and Marietta (Wade) Buchta.  He attended the Spooner Schools and in 1953, was united in marriage to Goldie Henderson in Pine City, MN.  In 1955, the couple drove to Alaska where he owned the McKinley Meat Market for 2 years, then worked for Carr’s Grocery Store, before buying and operating Bob’s Muldoon Lockers from 1969-1975.  In 1975, the couple moved back to Spooner so Bob could help care for his father. Bob entered into a partnership on the Gamble Store in Spooner and then purchased 2 buildings on Main Street where he opened Bob’s Hardware Hank from 1980 until his retirement in 1995.  Bob enjoyed cutting firewood, going to auctions, ice fishing and riding his snow machines, along with traveling in their motor home and driving antique cars.  He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He was a member of the Spooner United Methodist Church where the couple was active and he had an outlet to tell stories and visit with friends. He was also a member of the Spooner Army National Guard and in Anchorage he was in the Air National Guard.  Bob was active in the Spooner Rodeo Committee for many years.  He also drove a big track groomer for the local snowmobile club for years.

Bob is survived by his wife Goldie, children: Sally (Alan) McCollor of Anchorage, AK, Linda (Steve) Leverty of Anchorage, AK, Bobby (Dot) Buchta of Anchorage, AK, James Buchta of Arden Hills, MN, 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, brothers and sisters: Lynn (Sandy) Buchta of Portland, OR, Nick Buchta of Anchorage, AK, Glenn Buchta of Anchorage, AK, Marie Jenkins of Wellston, MI, Estie (Floyd) Murphy of Duluth, MN, and aunts Carol (Ross) Graber of Spooner, WI, and Lorraine Cable of Spooner, WI. 

Bob is preceded in death by his parents and sister Betty McCulloch.  

Memorial services for Bob Buchta will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at 11am, at the Spooner United Methodist Church in Spooner with Pastor Jack Starr officiating.  Visitation will be held at the Church on Saturday from 10-11am.  Interment will be at the Spooner Cemetery.
