In Memory of Buddy M. Styer
Buddy M. Styer, 72, a one-of-a kind entrepreneur who had a gift for mentoring and transforming a vision in the campground industry, passed away at the Red Barn Campground, Shell Lake, Wisconsin, on Friday, April 11, 2025.
Known as “Mr. Bud” in his signature Hawaiian shirt, Bud dedicated over 40 years to the campground industry after becoming a successful contractor. He was a guiding force for countless aspiring campground owners, generously sharing his wisdom and encouraging others to believe in their dreams. By consulting and mentoring the next generation, Bud didn’t just build campgrounds, he built a stronger, more connected industry and community-he made it his life’s work.
Alongside his soulmate Dianne Loper, Bud owned and operated several campgrounds. His mission was simple but powerful; create the WOW factor in family-focused spaces where lasting memories could be made. His impact was felt not only across Wisconsin, but throughout the Midwest. Believing, supporting in and giving back to local communities was of utmost important to him.
Bud’s influence extended far beyond the campground gates. He served on numerous local, state and national boards, regularly advocated for the industry at the State Capital. His passion left an indelible mark on the industry. In addition to his numerous campground achievements and recognition, he also gave back as a substitute teacher, volunteer, and advocate for local communities around Lodi WI.
He is survived by his beloved Dianne Loper; her daughters, Debra Kaspar (Charlie), Dawn Rehwinkel (Patrick), Rebecca Griffin (Glenn); six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Bud also leaves his siblings: twin sister Cindy Haynes, Wendy Troy (Ron), Randy Styer (Jessica), twins Cheryl Gudella (Carsten), and Laurie Styer (Tony), along with many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews-each of whom brought him pride and joy.
Preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mary Styer, Bud’s legacy lives on in every life he touched, every campground he helped grow, and every child who smiles a little brighter because of him. In the end, he did it his way. “Happy Trails To You”- until we meet again.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 24, 2025, in Sauk City, WI at the Hooverson Funeral Home, (3-7pm). A private family celebration of life will be held separately.
In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Bud’s spirit by supporting Mr. Bud Smiles through the Gilbert Brown Foundation.
The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to Dana Voit, who was instrumental over the years, in the day-to-day campground responsibilities with Bud.
