Calvin “Cal” L. Glessing, age 65, a resident of Spooner passed peacefully at home with his family at his side on Saturday, January 20, 2018, after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

He was born on September 27, 1952, to Norbert and Maxine (Hullemann) Glessing who both preceded him in death.

On September 3, 1977 he was united in marriage to Julie L. (Olson) and together they spent 40 wonderful years in which they raised their three children.

Cal was employed with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources retiring after 31 years.  He enjoyed traveling the state and meeting all sorts of people, some of which became life-long friends.

Being an avid outdoorsman, he not only enjoyed hunting and fishing, but appreciated what the outdoors had to offer.  He freely shared his knowledge and passion with close friends and especially family, passing that love on to the next generation.  He also shared with his wife, children and grandchildren the wonder of what is all around from gardening to observing nature, but most of all how to find and pick agates.  Though he had many accomplishments throughout his life, his children and grandchildren were his pride and joy and was known to show them off at every opportunity.

He is survived by his wife, Julie; sons Jason (Lisa) Glessing and Ben Glessing (Jess); daughter Carey Glessing (Dustin); grandsons Zachary, Jaiden, Mathew; granddaughters Bailey, Katie, Abby; sister Marleen (Mark) Hermann; brother Dick (Val) Glessing; brothers-in-law Larry (Barb) Olson, Lee (Chris) Olson, Wayne (Connie) Olson; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father- and mother-in-law, Vernon and Verna Olson and sister-in-law Ann Kasparec.
