In Memory of Candance C. (Fortun) Leckel

December 23, 1949 - June 24, 2026

Candance Colleen Leckel, age 76, of Trego, WI, passed away peacefully on Wednesday night June 24, 2026.

Known to most as “Candy” she was born to Raymond and Dolly (Hatlan) Fortun on December 23, 1949, in LaCrosse, WI. Being the oldest of eight children; Candy, Crystal, Carroll, Audrey, Gregory, Andrew, Andrea and Bradley; she grew up in Viola, WI. She was closest to her grandmother Blanche and found her love of sewing early in life.

After leaving her childhood in Viola, Candy worked a few jobs and found a fondness for dancing. This career change led her to meet her soon-to-be husband, Kenneth Leckel. They were married at the Spooner Wesleyan Church in 1970 and started a family shortly after. Together they raised four children in the home they built in Trego, WI.

After losing her husband in 2011, her family became her most precious possession. Her eleven grandchildren were the one thing she bragged about the most; however, when the seven great grandchildren came about, her world got even bigger. Being able to spend time with the kids was the highlight of all her days.

Candy’s personality was protective, sarcastic, honest, humorous, and sensitive. She cared very deeply for those she loved and protected them as fiercely as she could. Besides being a protective matriarch, Candy was an exceptional artist. Her hobbies of painting, making porcelain dolls, creating ceramics, and most recently, sewing beautiful quilts, filled lots of her spare time.

Candance is survived by her four children, Karl (Debbie) Leckel, Jeannie (Jason) Knutson, Jennifer Fulton, James (Mariia) Leckel.

A time of gathering will be held on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at Spooner Funeral Home from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
