Carlene Hansen, age 89, a resident of Spooner, died on Monday, July 27, 2026, at her home surrounded by family. Carlene was born November 6, 1936, in Portland, Maine to Carl J. and Mary Nueslein. She attended high school but did not graduate, instead making the decision to work and help out her family.

She met her husband, William (Pete) Hansen, in Portland, Maine on a blind date while he was on leave from the Navy and they were married May 17, 1958, in Portland, Maine. Upon Pete’s discharge from the Navy, they moved to Fond du Lac, Wisconsin to begin raising a family. They moved to Spooner, Wisconsin in 1970 and lived there throughout the rest of their lives, raising their five children, working hard, and being thankful for everything they had. They were married for 62 years.

Carlene was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and enjoyed being a member of the Servites church group, a member of Prayer Chain, a Eucharistic Minister, and numerous voluntary church activities, including working at funerals, baking for fund-raisers, etc. She enjoyed her many volunteer church activities, bowling league, walking, reading, shopping (mostly window shopping – she just loved looking) and she hardly ever missed an episode of her favorite soap opera “The Young and the Restless.”

She was an avid QVC watcher and enjoyed collecting and using serving dishes, Lock-n-Lock containers, and various kitchen gadgets. She also enjoyed displaying electric candles, angels, santas, and snowmen. She had a deep faith in God, a generous nature, and truly enjoyed helping others.

She is survived by her four children; Bill Hansen (Mary), Mary Hansen (Jim Rahn), Jack Hansen (Sami), and Dan Hansen, 15 grandchildren: Hollee (Jeremy), Kellee (Brandon), Lexee (Jacob), Jessica (Dan), Erica (Todd), Carly (Matt), James (Jaci), Stephanie (Max), Joe (Manda), Becky (Doug), Opal (Justin), Marcus (Ashley), Alec, Alina, and Nick; 17 great-grandchildren: Raguel, Melia, Evelynn, Hailey, Hannah, Emma, Molly, William, Gavin, Miles, Kloey, Nora, Ana, Lily, Myles, Charlotte, and Jaxson; brother John Nueslein and sister Linda Meserve-Dagnese (Rick).

Carlene is preceded in death by her parents, husband Pete, daughter Susan, infant granddaughter Sarah, 2 brothers, and 1 sister.

A memorial mass for Carlene Hansen will be held on Friday, July 31 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Spooner with Fr. Papi as Celebrant. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Memorial Mass. In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Carlene’s name.
