In Memory of Carol A. Asp

August 1, 1936 - March 8, 2025

Carol Ardis Asp, 88, of Turtle Lake, WI, passed away peacefully at her home on March 8, 2025, surrounded by family, joining her loving husband Tony in heaven. Carol was born on August 1, 1936 near Rice Lake, WI to Albert and Laura (Matton) Nelson, and was the youngest of seven children.

When Carol was 10 years old her family moved to Cumberland and purchased a small bait shop on Beaver Dam Lake. They added on to the newly renamed Al’s Bait House and also built seven cabins. She enjoyed working in the bait shop, especially during summers when the tourists came up. She graduated from Cumberland High School in 1954.

Carol met Stanley “Tony” Asp from Clear Lake, WI and they married on August 18, 1956. After their marriage they established their home near Turtle Lake, halfway between their hometowns. Their home was one of the first on Horseshoe Lake. In the years following, they were joined by their children, Rick, Joleen, and Jenny. Carol worked at 3M for a few years. She also helped out with her husband’s milk route business. Her favorite roles, however, were being a mom and grandma, and she was enjoying her recent promotion to great-grandma.

Carol epitomized what it means to be a people person, and always enjoyed getting together with family and friends. She made meaningful connections easily, whether it was during frequent trips to the casino, on vacations, or even in the waiting rooms at clinics; everywhere she went, she was likely to make a new friend. She was proud of being a “second mom” to her children’s friends or others who needed one at the time. Beyond this, she had a terrific sense of humor that she would reveal at the right times. In 2021, she lost the love of her life. While this was understandably difficult, she was fortunate to find a special friend in Jerry in her final years.

Carol is survived by son Rick (Linda) Asp; daughters Joleen (Marv) Jensen and Jenny (Tom) Hullander; grandchildren Jacob (Katie) Jensen, Rachel (Josh) Woods, Logan (Jenna Bauer) Steglich, and Jamie (Devin Dodge) Steglich; great grandchild Lily Jensen; step-grandchildren Jay (Amanda) Jensen, Zach (Christine) Hullander, and Maddie Hullander; step-great grandchildren Madysan Jensen, Karl Jensen and Miriam Hullander; sister-in-law Sharon Fall, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She is also survived by special friend Jerry Purdin, Sr. and special family friend Tom Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 65 years, Tony; her siblings Elaine McClaine, Orville Nelson, Maurine McClaine, LeRoy “Bud” Nelson, Wanda Flesch, and Arlene Waite.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, March 22, 2025 at Moe Lutheran Church near Clear Lake, with visitation at the church starting an hour before the service. Pallbearers are her grandsons Jacob and Logan. Honorary pallbearers are her granddaughters Rachel and Jamie. The family would like to thank St Croix Hospice and Skinner Funeral Home for their compassionate care. The service can be watched by going to www.cllutheran.org.
