In Memory of Carol Ann Leckel

Caroline Ann (Brown) Leckel, age 90, a resident of Spooner, died on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at the Maple Ridge Care Center in Spooner, Wisconsin.

Caroline was born in the Township of Oasis, near Antigo, Wisconsin, on October 14, 1925 to parents Floyd and Ruth (Spear) Brown.  She married the love her life, Harry Leckel, on October 26, 1942.  Together, Caroline and Harry farmed and drove truck together through their working years.

Caroline loved gardening in her almost one acre plot and made many quilts.  She drove the elderly around, shopped for the residents of the nursing home, and also worked at the food pantry.  Caroline was very active in the Wesleyan church and served as a Sunday school teacher.  As a young girl she was of the first members of the church.  Caroline was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Washburn County Historical Society, and the Tadpole Homemakers.

Caroline is survived by her children Terry (Verna) of Spooner, John (Nancy) of Spooner, Pam (Ken) Hanson of Superior, WI, Marilyn Leckel of Rochester, MN, Joe (Debbie) of Spooner, and Mark (Debra) of Spooner; her daughters-in-law Candance Leckel and Jean Leckel; 23 grandchildren;  36 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; and sisters Kathy Strait, Diane Wilson, and Vonnie Anderson.

Caroline was preceded in death by her husband Harry, her brothers Larry and James, her parents Floyd and Ruth, her sons Randy and Ken, her daughter Melody, and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral service for Carol Leckel will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, October 17, 2016 at Spooner Wesleyan Church in Spooner Wisconsin with Pastor Ron Gormong officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will follow at the Spooner Cemetery next to her husband Harry.  Casket bearers will be Eric Leckel, Derrek Hanson, Karl Leckel, Dan Leckel, Jason Leckel, Alex Leckel, Joe Joe Leckel, and Punk Leckel.  Online condolences may be left at www.bratley-nelsonchapels.com
