In Memory of Charles J. Schleif

July 13, 1932 - November 23, 2022

Charles "Chuck" Schleif, age 90, of Hayward, WI passed away peacefully on November 23, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.

Chuck was born July 13, 1932, in Rochester, MN, the son of Marion and Jeanette (Ready) Schleif.

He was raised in Rochester and graduated from Rochester High School. In 1952 he joined the US Coast Guard and served until his honorable discharge in 1956. After his time in the service, he returned to Rochester where he worked for Marigold Dairy. In 1959 Chuck purchased a Mobil gas station in Rochester and later built The Gaslight Inn Motel on its site. He owned and operated the business until he sold it in 1981 and moved to Fountain Hills, AZ. In 1994 Chuck moved to Lake Silverthorn near Hayward.

Chuck loved art, music, painting, tinkering, and good conversation. He was a bona fide raconteur - famous for his wit, colorful stories, and jokes we wish we could hear just one more time. He enjoyed the simple things of life, and sharing the beauty of them with others - like a cup of coffee with a pontoon ride. Most of all Chuck treasured his family and friends, and spending time with them at his charming home he rightfully named "God's Little Acre". His legacy of unconditional love and “Leave a smile in your wake", along with endless happy memories, will be treasured forever.

He is survived by his three children, Jamie Miller of La Quinta, CA, Kelly (Dave) Miller of Prior Lake, MN, Joseph (Annie) Schleif of Independence, MN; seven grandchildren; one great grandchild; and two step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Patricia.

A memorial service celebrating Chuck’s life will be held at a later date to be announced.

Interment will be in the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Beaver Brook Township, WI.
