In Memory of Charles Murphy

September 23, 1928 - March 16, 2022

Charles T (Chuck) Murphy was able to leave this life the way he wanted, from home with his family at his side.

He was born Sept 23, 1928 to James and Frances Murphy in Omaha, NE.

He graduated from Holy Name High School in 1947 and always considered himself an Omaha boy at heart. He entered military service in 1950 serving 2 years active duty and continued to serve our country as a member of the Army Reserve for many years. Chuck joined the USDA, Meat Grading division in 1959 and rose to become a National Supervisor before his retirement. He took his work seriously, but his true love and priority was his family. He married Joan in 1953 and they raised their children wherever his career took him across the country. He was father to seven, grandfather to nine and great-grandfather to ten. Shortly after retirement they relocated to Rice Lake where Chuck and Joan found their own piece of heaven on a small farm outside town. Nothing made him happier than maintaining the homestead and welcoming family and friends there. Chuck was actively involved in Rice Lake community life and contributed his energy and commitment to St Vincent dePaul, Golden Ks, American Legion Honor Guard, and St Joseph Catholic Church. Rice Lake truly became his adopted home. Chuck was an avid sportsman who enjoyed a good hunt and stories around the campfire. Known for his wit and sense of humor, he will be sorely missed.

He is survived by wife of almost 69 years Joan, his children Tom (Jo), Kathleen, Bridget (Aaron), Pat (Kate), Eileen (Dan) and Joann; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and sister Patricia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings James and Mary and daughter Maureen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10AM Saturday, March 26, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rice Lake, Father Ed Anderson officiating, with interment and Military Rites accorded him by the Rice Lake Veteran Honor Guard in the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI at a later date.

Visitation will be held from 4-6PM Friday at Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake and for one hour prior to the Funeral Service at the Church.

In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to: American Legion Post #87 Honor Guard 1404 Macauley Ave, Rice Lake or Rice Lake Golden K P.O. Box 451 Rice Lake, WI memo-Chuck Murphy Memorial.
