In Memory of Charlotte “Chuckie” A. Grilley


August 16, 1925 - March 9, 2025

Charlotte “Chuckie” Annabelle Grilley, age 99, of Rice Lake, WI, died Sunday, March 9, 2025 in Rice Lake. She was born on August 16, 1925 in Bloomer, WI to John and Florence (Kressin) Breunig.

The Breunig family moved to Rice Lake when Chuckie was 9 years old where she was enrolled in St Joseph Elementary school. In high school Chuckie was a cheerleader for four years and was also the head drum majorette. She married Gordon Grilley, her high school sweetheart on January 5th, 1945. She and Gordy traveled, canoed and camped around the US and Canada every summer with their children. Later they became avid golfers and snowmobilers. She was a stay at home mom and then worked as a supervisor in a factory and was a cashier at Arnie’s IGA store in Milltown, WI.

Chuckie was a very kind person and was naturally funny. She enjoyed being at Woodstone Senior Living the last few years and was active in their many activities. She was fiercely independent but she enjoyed the staff and appreciated their hard work. Friday happy hour was a favorite for her.

She is survived by a daughter, Cheryl (Arlen) Mortensen; 2 grandchildren, Daniel Mortensen and Kasee Hickok; 5 great grandchildren, Carter, Karah and Ryker Hickok, Carson and Charly Mortensen; a special niece, Janet Knutson; and other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Grilley; a son, Greg Grilley; 2 sisters and 2 brothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Noon, Wednesday March 19, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rice Lake, WI; Father Joseph Kumar officiating, with interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
