In Memory of Charlotte L. Ross


August 31, 1935 - June 18, 2024

Charlotte Lorraine (Hutchens) Ross, age 88, passed away Tuesday morning, June 18, 2024 at home on Long Lake in Sarona, Wisconsin.

She was born on August 31, 1935 at Highland Hospital in Belvidere, Illinois to Glen and Agnes (Johnson) Hutchens. She grew up in Poplar Grove until her marriage to D. Alan Ross on October 15, 1955 when they then moved to Beloit. In high school she was involved in many things including playing the clarinet and cheerleading. After high school she attended nursing training. During her 10 years in 4-H, she won many awards and had projects that went to the Illinois State Fair. She also became a First Class Girl Scout. As their girls grew up she became a Girl Scout leader and served on the board of Badger Council of Girl Scouts. The National Girl Scout event that she helped with was called Country Fair. There was a time she became a Cub Scout leader when their son was in Boy Scouts. She served on the Beloit Hockey Board. She was a long-time P.E.O. member and member of the Beloit Fortnightly Club. Charlotte was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Beloit and Sarona, Wisconsin. Charlotte was a passionate baker, cake decorator, crafter, and family seamstress. She loved crafting with her friends and family. Her favorite pastimes were playing cards and board games. She loved traveling with Alan and friends. Alan and Charlotte were married for almost 67 years, until his death in June 2022. They retired to Long Lake in 1995.

She is survived by her children, Nancy Ross of Cottage Grove, MN, Patricia (Paul) Anderson of Beloit, WI, and John (Bobette) Ross of Appleton, WI; 4 grandchildren, Justin (Kirsten) Troyan, Lauryn Ross, Jessica (Mo) Reza, and Lyndsey Ross; great granddaughters, Nora Troyan, and Alaina Reza; close family member Ruth Beck and family; sister-in-law Susan (Ross) Culver and brother-in-law James Ross. She is preceded in death by her husband, D. Alan Ross; her parents, Glen and Agnes (Johnson) Hutchens; half-brother, Glen Junior Hutchens; father-in-law and mother-in-law John Donald and Doris Pauline Ross, brothers-in-law, Richard Culver and Warren (Tom) Ross and sister-in-law, Sally Ross.

Funeral Services will be held at 1PM Sunday, June 30, 2024 at the Sarona United Methodist Church in Sarona, WI, Rev. Chris Van Beek officiating, with interment in Eastlawn Cemetery in Beloit, WI at a later date. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the Funeral Service.

Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, WI is serving and assisting the family with the arrangements. The funeral service will be live streamed on facebook at - Jon Tillung. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to Sarona United Methodist Church.
