In Memory of Curtis A. Johnson
Curtis Alan Johnson, known to most as Curt, passed away on May 7, 2026, in Luck, Wisconsin, from natural causes, leaving behind a life that was full of hard work, laughter, and the kind of steady love that makes a family feel lucky just to have been in the room with him.
Born on July 13, 1960, in Amery, Wisconsin, Curt grew up with a strong sense of humor, a strong work ethic, and probably a strong opinion about how things ought to be done, which, to be fair, he usually had a point about. He graduated from St. Croix Falls High School in 1978 and carried that same practical, no-nonsense spirit into everything he did afterward. Curt was the kind of man who did not need a spotlight, because he had a way of making ordinary moments memorable all on his own.
For many years, Curt worked as a carpenter, building with his hands and leaving behind more than just finished projects. He also co-owned Sterling Skids and Pallets for approximately 15 years, where his dedication and experience were part of what kept things running smoothly. He understood the value of honest work, and he approached it with the kind of reliability that people came to trust. If something needed fixing, building, or figuring out, Curt was the man you wanted nearby. He may not have always said a lot, but when he did, it usually counted, and sometimes it even came with a joke that landed better than expected.
Curt was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting, and taking early morning walks. He appreciated the quiet of the outdoors, the kind of peace that comes before the day gets noisy, and he seemed to enjoy being out in the world before most people had even found their coffee. Those early walks were part reflection, part routine, and perhaps part proof that he enjoyed being awake before everyone else, just to keep the rest of us humble. He found joy in simple things, and he knew how to enjoy them fully, which is a gift not everyone manages to master.
Faith was also an important part of Curt’s life. He was a Christian, and his faith was woven into the way he lived, worked, and cared for the people around him. He was loving, kind, and funny, and those qualities were not just words used to describe him. They were the way he showed up in the world. He had a warm presence, a quick wit, and a heart that made room for others. Curt had the rare ability to make people feel comfortable, even when he was teasing them just enough to keep them on their toes.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy (McMahon) Johnson; his sons, Jed Johnson and Curtis Johnson Jr.; his daughter, Cassandra (Johnson) Stewart; his mother, Donna (Patrin) Johnson; his brothers, Ricky Johnson and Chris Johnson; his sister, Debbie (Johnson) Adams; numerous grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and the kind of stories that family members will tell for years, usually with at least one person saying, “Yep, that sounds exactly like Curt.”
Curt’s life was a good one, built on honest labor, faithful love, and a sense of humor that could brighten a room without trying too hard. He will be remembered for his strength, his kindness, his devotion to family, and the way he could make people laugh even when they were not entirely sure they wanted to. In the end, Curt lived in a way that was true to himself, and that is no small thing. He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and spoken of often, which is fitting, because a man like Curt does not really leave. He just becomes the best kind of story.
A Visitation will begin at 10: 00 AM, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Adventure Church (23985 State Rd 35 S, Siren, WI 54872). A luncheon will be provided following the service.
