Darrell Alvin Swearingen, age 85, died May 20, 2017 at Veterans Health Care Center in Minneapolis, MN. 

Darrell was born near Emmetsburg, Iowa on May 13, 1932 to Alvin John and Florence Marie (Traver) Swearingen.  The family came to the Town of Evergreen in 1936.  Darrell went to Rocky Ridge School for 8 years and graduated from Spooner High School in 1950.  He entered the U.S. Army on December 12, 1952 and was honorably discharged on December 11, 1954 as a Corporal.  On June 12, 1954 he was married in Frederic, WI to Barbara Vesely, a resident of Hertel.  They went to Idaho where Darrell worked for the U.S. Forest Service.  Back in Spooner in March 1955, their first child, David, was born.  Two children, JoAnn and Patricia, followed in 1957 and 1959.  Darrell went to lineman training and was employed by Barron County REA for many years.  He also worked at Spooner Machine Shop for his cousin, Dick Swearingen.  Darrell enjoyed spending time with his family camping in Canada, hunting and fishing.

Darrell is survived by his wife, Barb; his son David (Crystal) of Shell Lake, WI; and his daughters JoAnn (Rick) Moore of Bruce, WI and Pat (Dick) Greene of Bradyville, TN.  He was the proud grandfather of Jennifer (Eduardo), Nicole (Steve), Amanda, Samantha (Tyler), Britty, and Hali; and great-grandfather of Arianna, Caprice, Emily, Max, McKenzie, Brooklyn and Peri.  He is also survived by his brother Dean. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters-in-law, and in-laws Julia and Richard Vesely.

A private interment will be held Lakeview Cemetery in Hertel, WI.
