
In Memory of David A. Zimmer
David A. Zimmer, age 74, of Spooner, WI passed away on Wednesday, June 30, 2025, at Dove Health Care in Spooner.
David A. Zimmer was born in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Leo and Doris (Reed) Zimmer. He was raised in the Minneapolis area and graduated from Patrick Henry High School in North Minneapolis. David joined the U.S. Army on September 14, 1971and served his country for over seven years with part of that during the Vietnam War. While in service David earned the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Sharpshooter Badge with M16 Rifle and hand grenade. David was honorably discharged on September 20, 1978 and returned to Minnesota where he worked in hauling auto parts. David was joined in marriage to Amy Talberg in 1982 in Hillman, MN and together they were blessed with two daughters. David moved to Spooner, WI in the late 1980’s where he worked numerous jobs including as a fire spotter for the DNR and a grounds keeper. David enjoyed vegetable gardening, gun collecting and playing horseshoes with friends or in league.
David is survived by his two daughters, Carrie (Eric) Swanson of Crosby, MN, Laura (Zeb) Manzke of Lakefield, MN; six grandchildren, Christopher, Jacob, Cameron, Mikayla, Vincent and Jeremie; three sisters, Sue Volavka, Kathy Scholer, Julie Eisenschenk, all of the twin cities area; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law, Joe and Rick.
Military honors will be accorded for David at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 18, 2025 at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Beaver Brook Township, Washburn County, WI.
