In Memory of David J. Peterson
Our sky gained one of its brightest stars, as we announce the profound loss of Dave, who truly illuminated the lives of so, so many on Monday, December 1, 2025 at the age of 60 years old. He was born on August 29, 1965 in Barron, WI to Alton and Alice (Huehn) Peterson.
Dave Peterson of Cumberland, WI, was born into a large, beautiful family. He was fiercely loved and admired by his closest siblings, distant cousins and all in-between. With a knack for all things practical and hands-on, he was the go-to guy for many. He would fix your car, skin your buck, and complete the honey-do list, all with a smile. Dave showed up for everyone in his life completely and happily, and he found true fulfillment in serving and mentoring others.
Dave advocated for kindness, compassion and helping the next person in line, so he passed on knowledge and valuable life experience to friends, family, and colleagues at every opportunity, leaving pieces of his legacy in all of you, who knew him. With his immeasurable heart, he poured into his passions and was a lifelong adventure seeker.
He cheered loudest for the Green Bay Packers, took yearly fishing trips to Canada, became a volunteer firefighter for the Haugen Fire Department, and his Harley was on the road at the first sight of sunshine. His love for life was boundless; he found community and friendship in every space and used his connections to contribute to the collective good.
He will be remembered so fondly, as we share our memories gained and lessons learned from our relationships with Dave. His last year was filled with inconceivable medical hardship that he faced with bravery and optimism. He lived fully and only had concern with making the most of each day, spending time with those he loved, and being a provider, friend, and Dad to his absolute utmost capacity.
Dave left this sentiment with his family, to share with all of you: "Just hold on to those moments And the memories we shared We're both headed for the same place anyway I just beat you there."
He is survived by the joys of his life, his 4 children: Dereck Peterson, Brooke Cupp, Austin (Jenee) Peterson, and Saige Peterson; 3 grandchildren: Everly, Mazie, and Ledger; his soulmate, Jodi Peterson; his mother, Alice Edwards Stoeckel; 7 siblings, Bonnie (Steve) Smith, Sandra (Dale) Stoeckel, Bob Peterson (Deb Picknell), Susan Walker, Julie (David) Leader, Ted Stoeckel and Angie Stoeckel; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Al Peterson; a niece Stacey Haynie; and a brother-in-law, Matson Walker.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025 from 1-4PM at the Bear Lake/Haugen Fire Station, 500 1st Street, Haugen, WI 54841.
