In Memory of David Palmquist


January 28, 1942 - June 5, 2019

David Charles Palmquist, 77, of Rice Lake passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at Brentwood Memory Care. He was born January 28, 1942 in Rice Lake to Jerome and Lorena (Schieffer) Palmquist. Dave graduated from St. Joseph Catholic School and later Rice Lake High School in 1960. Immediately following, Dave enlisted in the US Army and served his country for 3 years in Korea. Dave worked construction with his uncles in southern California for several years before returning to Rice Lake. He worked numerous jobs including with his father and brother at GTC Auto Parts, before starting his own construction business. He was married in Las Vegas, NV on January 22, 1972 to Ricky Lundgren. In the late 1980's, he was invited by longtime friend, Tom Loyas to join the Target Corporation. Dave was responsible for overseeing the construction of many Target Stores across the country during his 22 years with the company.  

Dave was a longtime and successful stock car racer at Rice Lake Speedway and other local tracks, and in 2012 was inducted into the Rice Lake Speedway Hall of Fame. He and Ricky and family spent many summer days up north at the cabin and winters down south at their home in Florida.

He is survived by his wife, Ricky of Rice Lake; children: Shasta Andersen of Shell Lake, Scott (Karen) Amundson of Eden Prairie, MN and Sabrena Lorentz of Rice Lake; grandchildren: Sierra, Sage, Heather, Zachary, Connor, Maximilian and Mia; siblings: Judy Davison of Rice Lake, and Steven (Cindy) Palmquist of Rice Lake; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. Dave was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Diane Swenddal.

A memorial visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Monday, June 10, 2019 at the Skinner Funeral Home in Rice Lake followed immediately by Military Honors at Rice Lake City Park. Afterwards, a meal and time to share memories will be held at the Rice Lake Elks Club.  A brief committal service will be held at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner on Flag Day, Friday, June 14 at 12 Noon.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Mayo Hospice.

Military honors accorded by Rice Lake Veterans' Center Honor Guard and Wisconsin Military Honors Team.

Skinner Funeral Home of Rice Lake is serving the family.
