In Memory of Delores Sorenson


August 24, 1927 - December 13, 2019

Delores Marie Sorenson passed away peacefully at Glenview Assisted Living Center in Shell Lake, WI, on December 13, 2019.

The oldest of five daughters, she was born on August 24, 1927, in the Township of Vance Creek, Barron County, WI, to John and Mary Dado.

She received her teaching certificate from Barron County Normal School in Rice Lake, WI, in 1947 and began her teaching career at the one room Longfellow School in the Town of Arland, Barron County, WI. She also taught in Radisson, WI.

She was united in marriage to Harry W. Sorenson, WWII Veteran and Ex-POW, on June 14, 1947, in Almena, WI.  They moved to Spooner where she taught 3rd and 4th grades at St. Francis de Sales School for 25 years from 1958-1983.  She returned to the school as an aide from 1984-1986 and from 1986-1997 she worked with the 1st and 2nd grade math students.  Delores dedicated 38 years to the students of St. Francis de Sales.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harry (July 2, 1991); two sisters, Lorraine (Adolph) Scheps and Jeanette (Marvin) Dietrich.

She is survived by son Harry (Sally), daughter Karen; grandsons Beau (Maryam Qudus) and Matt (Tiffannie); great-grandson Miles Robert Memphis; and two sisters, Shirley (Jim) Aus and Marlene Davis.

A loving wife, dedicated mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, she treasured time spent with family, friends and her two cats.  She enjoyed many outdoor activities throughout her life, often escaping on weekends to camp, fish, and relax with her family.

She was active in the St. Francis de Sales CCW, the Indianhead Chapter of Ex-POWs, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 1028, and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 12, Spooner, WI.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Spooner, WI, on Saturday, December 21, at 11:00 a.m.  Visitation will be at the church from 10:00-11:00 a.m. preceding the services.  Private interment will follow in the spring beside her husband in the Spooner Veterans Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, her request was donations be made to St. Francis de Sales School, 300 Oak St., Spooner, WI 54801 or to the Washburn County Area Humane Society, 1400 Cottonwood Ave., Spooner, WI 54801.
