In Memory of Diane S. Kammerud

July 17, 1940 - June 29, 2024

On June 29, 2024, Diane Sue Kammerud (Moe) went to meet her Lord, and finally, after waiting patiently for over thirty years to once again embrace our daughter, Kim. Diane passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family after a courageous nearly three-year battle with cancer.

Diane was born in Emerald WI on July 17, 1940, to Noel and Irene (Luepke) Moe. At the age of four the family purchased a dairy farm just south of Emerald. She attended elementary school in Emerald and was graduate of Glenwood City High School class of 1957 at the age of sixteen. While in school Diane was a loyal member of the Bellringers 4H Club where through the years she won numerous blue ribbons in cooking, gardening, and home furnishing. While in high school she played trombone in the band, was a member of the choir, and was a cheerleader. When Diane was in elementary school her older brother Duane got married and Diane became her dad’s right hand on the farm. After high school Diane went on to the University of Wisconsin River Falls for a couple years before making the move to Minneapolis and the business world.

While in Minneapolis she met this guy from Osceola who turned out to be her soulmate. Diane and Pete were marring at West Immanuel Lutheran Church on August 12, 1961, in August they would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. To this union three children were born, Kim (1962), Karlene (1963) and Kelly (1967).

Diane worked for the Bank of Osceola for 16 years, then in 1982 Diane and Pete opened the Pizza Cellar and later the MainStreeter in downtown Osceola, they operated the restaurants for 20 years. After selling the businesses Diane’s retirement was filled with the love and laughter of her grandchildren.

Diane taught Sunday School, was a 4H leader and a member of the Osceola Fair Board for many years. In 1998 Diane and Pete were selected to be the Grand Marshals for the Osceola Community Fair Parade. Diane shared her love of music with her community by playing the organ at West Immanuel Lutheran Church for 35 years.

Diane enjoyed her flower gardens, needle work and especially reading. Diane was told many times by Pete, “If you would read something educational you could be the smartest person in the world.” Diane was smart enough to read for the pure enjoyment of it.

When their children were young the family traveled extensively, usually pulling a camper, those summer trips took the family to thirty plus states. Besides all the summer trips the family would spend at one week at the Cross Lake MN Corp of Engineers campground. When the kids grew up Diane and Pete continued to travel and camp as much as they could. The last several summers have found them among a great group of camping friends at the Grand Casino RV Resort. At her passing they still had a handful of states to visit, Pete’s advice, “don’t wait”.

Diane was preceded in death by daughter Kim, parents Noel and Irene Moe, in laws Henry and Alice Kammerud, brother Duane Moe, sisters in law Phyllis Moe, Vivian Brunberg, Jean Watson and Judy Millard, brothers in law Paul Kammerud and Loren Kammerud, many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She leaves to mourn, husband Pete Kammerud, children Karlene Smith and Kelly Kammerud, grandchildren Colin, Sophie, Kaylie and Sydney Kammerud, great granddaughter Emersyn, sister-in-law Carol Kammerud, Goddaughters Debbie, Erin and Maddie, along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Diane was loved by all and will be sorely missed by all, especially her loving family. The family would like to send out a special thank you to the staff at Osceola Medical Center, the loving help of St. Croix Hospice, our church and church family, friends and neighbors who have stepped up in our time of need. Memorials will be directed to West Immanuel Lutheran Church, Osceola Educational Foundation and St. Croix Hospice.
