In Memory of Don Rye


August 20, 1941 - September 24, 2021

Donald Martin Rye passed away Friday, September 24, 2021 at the age of 80.

Don was born in Baldwin, WI on August 20, 1941, and raised on a farm south of Glenwood City, WI.

He graduated from Glenwood City High School in 1959.

Don and Marlene were married in Deer Park, WI on April 27, 1963; together they raised their family north of Cumberland. Don worked with his father at the Rye Furnace Shop and remained self-employed at Rye Heating & Plumbing until the early 1990s after which he worked for local heating and plumbing contractors. Don served the community thru the Chamber of Commerce, Jaycees, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, and Cumberland Fire Department. Don will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a loving husband, father, friend, and avid hunter.

Don is survived by loving wife Marlene of 58 years and their three children, Timothy (Sheila) Rye, Lynda (Mark) Lisenby, Michael (Roxann) Rye; seven grandchildren Stephanie Chilstrom, David (Melissa) Rye, Eric Chilstrom, Jonathon Chilstrom, Erin Rye-Jennings, Jordan Rye, and Wyatt Rye and three step grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren Collin Rye, Kolt Chilstrom, Marielle Hogshead, Vayden Jones, and Vaughn Jones and 14 step-greatgrandchildren. Also survived by sister Kathleen (Norman) Adascheck and sister-in-law Mardi Rye, three nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Ione Rye; brother, Steven Rye.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday, October 4, 2021 at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor Miels officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery. Pallbearers are Timothy Rye, Michael Rye, David Rye, Eric Chilstrom, Jon Chilstrom, and Wyatt Rye. Honorary pallbearers are Michael “Mick” Ritchie and Wayne Wilson. Visitation will be for one hour before the service.

Skinner Funeral Home of Cumberland/ Turtle Lake is serving the family.
