Donald S. Nelson, age 62, a resident of Grantsburg passed away on July 31, 2022.

Donald was born on august 28, 1959 in St. Paul, MN to parents Donald and Barbara Nelson. In 1969 the family moved to Grantsburg, Wisconsin

Donald graduated from Grantsburg High School in 1977. He then went on to continue his education at Bethel University earning his master’s degree in Art and Divinity. After earning his degrees, he worked as a Chaplin at Hennepin County Medical Center, Minneapolis and Hospitals in Chicago, IL. In 2005 Don returned home to Grantsburg, working at Community Living Options and later at Shady Knoll Nursing Home.

Donald loved being in nature, especially the Rocky Mountains, having climbed Longs Peak in Estes Park Colorado. In his free time, he enjoyed camping, hiking the St. Croix River trails and was a talented artist.

Donald is survived by his parents; sisters, Lana (Thomas) Schuette and Shelia (Michael) Stark; nieces, Megan Schuette and Amy (Grant Hendrickson) Bloomquist; nephews, Samuel (Brienna) Schuette and Tommy Bloomquist; great nieces and nephews, Izzy, Sophia, Scotty and JT; along with many other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 1:00 PM (visitation 12-1PM) at Grace Baptist Church in Grantsburg.

Arrangements were entrusted to Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home.
