In Memory of Donna Hines

June 23, 1938 - July 7, 2019

Donna May (Mangelsen) Hines was born June 23, 1938 to Henry and Lida (McCarty) Mangelsen. She grew up on a small rural farm near Hertel, WI and attended Doran Schoolhouse and Siren High School. Right after high school she moved to the Twin Cities to pursue a job as a file clerk.

She married the love of her life, Gerald Hines on August 1st, 1959. They welcomed son Brian in 1960, daughter Brenda in 1963, and son Barry in 1967. Then in 1968 they welcomed the addition of Gerry’s son Mark to their home full-time. They lived in Richfield, MN until her retirement in 1994 when they decided to move permanently to their cabin just outside of Hertel, WI.

She was a stay-at-home mom until her kids were grown and through school. Then she became secretary at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Richfield, MN for 9 years before retiring and moving up north. However, soon after retirement she became the volunteer part-time secretary for Timberland Ringebu Free Lutheran Church in Barronett, WI. Apart from being church secretary, she was always avidly involved in her church.

Her favorite past times were sharing God’s word through bible studies and spending treasured time with her friends and family no matter what the activity.

After a courageous battle with cancer, Donna was peacefully called home to her heavenly father on July 7, 2019.

Donna is survived by her husband, Gerald; children, Brian (Jane) Hines, Brenda Sweet, Barry (Sue) Hines, and Mark (Sue) Hines; 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; siblings, Marlene Swearingen, Nina (Lawrence) Hines, Hank (Karen) Mangelsen, Lida Nordquist, and Gerald (Nina) Mangelsen.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Lida Mangelsen; siblings, Jess Mangelsen, Inez Pearson, Nick Mangelsen, Donnie Mangelsen, Kenny Mangelsen; and great-granddaughter, Harper.

A memorial service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, W7148 Luther Road, Spooner, WI, on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 12PM. Visitation will be held at the Rowe Funeral Home in Frederic, 101 Cedar Street W, Frederic, WI, on Friday, July 12th from 4 to 7PM and again one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested for her church or church missions.

Arrangements are entrusted to Rowe Funeral Home.
