Dorothy Basty went to be with the Lord on March 13, 2018 after a long battle with alzhiemer's disease. She was born in Chicago on March 22, 1931 to John and Barbara (Mushes) Haas. Dorothy graduated from Steinmetz high school in 1949. After high school she worked in the office for Belden Electric, and within a few years met Bill Basty. The two were married in Birchwood on October 15, 1955. They lived in Chicago where their 3 sons were born, and Dorothy remained a homemaker where she honed her cooking skills.

Dorothy and Bill built a home on Big Chetac lake, left Chicago for good and came to Birchwood to stay in 1972. Dorothy loved to work in the garden which became a substantial job at times. She was a great cook who continued scouring the cook books searching for new recipe ideas. She loved her bird feeder during the winter, but especially looked forward to seeing the hummingbirds in summer.Many trips were taken to Canada with her husband and grandsons fishing. Dorothy is survived by her sons: Bill (Kirsten) of Thermopolis WY, David (Annie) of Birchwood and John (Marie) also of Birchwood;brothers: Tom Haas of Woodridge IL and Jim (Colleen) of Elgin IL; her sister, Ginger (Tom LoCascio) of West Dundee, IL and sister in law Diane Haas of Birnamwood; also many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Bill; her parents John and Barbara; brothers: Bob and Jack.

Visitation will be Sunday March 25 from 2 - 5 PM at the Skinner funeral home in Rice Lake and for an hour prior to the service at the church. A church service will be held on Monday, March 26 at 11:00 am at the Meteor Hills Bible church with Rev. Al Miller officiating. Burial will be following the service at Woodlawn Cemetery in Birchwood. Pallbearers are John Basty, Cal Basty, Steve Basty, Justin Pendleton, Jim Clark and Sasha Basty Skinner Funeral Home is serving the family.
