Dorothy P. Swanson, 85, of New Richmond, WI died Saturday, February 22, 2025, due to complications with her long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
She was born in Chicago, IL., on June 27th, 1939, the daughter of Joe and Mary Vobornik. Mary passed away in 1960 and Joe married Vicky (Cortner). Dorothy grew up on the family dairy farm in Weyerhaeuser, WI. After graduating high school, Dorothy attended UW River Falls majoring in Administrative Assistant, where she met her husband, Roger Swanson. They were wed on October 1st, 1960, and lived in the Twin Cities. Eventually, they settled in the early 1970’s on a farm between Amery and Clayton where they started a family dairy farm raising Jerseys. They continued the farm until retirement.
Dorothy worked at the Clayton School as the Administrative Assistant to the school Administrator. Dorothy worked at the school for over 20 years and was greatly missed by students and staff alike upon retirement.
Dorothy had many interests including reading, raising & riding horses, taking care of animals of all kinds, biking, rollerblading, XC skiing, kayaking, snowshoeing with the dogs, watching the bald eagles behind the farm, hiking, fishing, vegetable and flower gardening, pretty much anything outdoors. Dorothy loved the outdoors!
Dorothy loved to travel, starting at a young age on a cross-country train trip to San Francisco. She would typically tell people that Greece and Italy were some of her favorite destinations. She loved to explore new destinations and experience new cultures, especially with her sister Barb.
She is survived by her husband, Roger Swanson; her sister, Barb Lindquist; her brother, Ron Vobornik; her stepsister, Karen (Clarence) Glotfelty; and her three children, Steve (Gail) Swanson, Lynn Swanson, and Craig (Martha) Swanson.
