In Memory of Douglas S. Hanson

October 3, 1941 - April 20, 2023

Douglas Sigurd Hanson, age 81, of Frederic, WI passed away peacefully on Thursday April 20, 2023 surrounded by family and friends.

Doug was born in Frederic, WI on October 3, 1941 to Warren and Audrey Hanson. The oldest of 4 children, he attended Pleasant Dale grade school and Frederic High School, graduating in 1960. He was baptized and later confirmed as a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Bone Lake. He later served Zion as a board member and church president.

Doug was raised on a large farm which is now part of the Straight Lake State Park Wildlife area. Here he enjoyed riding horses, spending time with many neighborhood friends and adventures with his beloved brother Kent.

A farm accident as a young boy caused Doug's vision to gradually decline, resulting in a complete loss of eyesight later in life. Despite the challenges his health presented, Doug chose to make the most of what life had to offer. He was always ready to rise to the occasion, and wasn't one to let his poor sight slow him down.

Doug was a hard worker. As a young man he worked traveling construction, and especially enjoyed building roads with heavy equipment, often alongside his father. He soon discovered a passion for land dealing that would occupy much of his working years. Buying, developing and selling property led him to building his home on the north shore of Lamont Lake. Here he would start his family and enjoy the rest of his life.

On June 11, 1977 Doug married the love of his life Joyce Thorsbakken. They had one daughter, Tanya. Every year they grew a large vegetable garden and enjoyed raising cattle, horses, and chickens. Doug also enjoyed trips down their 1 mile long driveway which he built.

In 1991 Doug earned a degree in therapeutic massage. His mother Audrey was instrumental in helping Doug, reading coursework to him and continuing to aid him as he gained more knowledge. He worked out of his home until his retirement, and was a passionate helper to anyone who needed his aide. He always pursued knowledge and at the age of 75 became a Reiki Master.

Doug enjoyed dancing, long walks, pontooning around Lamont Lake, riding the Gator around his land and sharing his knowledge of health. He loved spending time with his good friends and family, especially his three grandchildren Lexi, Lily, and Calvin. They brought much joy and happiness to his life.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents Warren and Audrey Hanson, Brother Kent Hanson, nephew Jason Furlong, father and mother-in-law Elmer and Helen Thorsbakken, and sister-in-law Rose Thorsbakken

Doug is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years Joyce Hanson of Frederic, WI, daughter Tanya (Craig) Lundeen JR of Luck, WI, grandchildren Alexis Lundeen, Lily Mae Lundeen, and Calvin Sigurd Lundeen all of Luck, WI.
