In Memory of Dr. Anita J. Wepfer

February 6, 1944 - June 21, 2025

Dr. Anita Joan Wepfer, PHD. was born February 6, 1944 in Madison, WI to Aldor Wepfer and Marian Winther Wepfer. She passed into Eternal Life on June 21, 2025 at her home at the age of 81.

From Wisconsin, her family moved to Menominee, MI where she started school. Her school years took her to Lansing, Clarkston, and Ortonville, MI. In Junior High she moved to Duluth, MN where she attended Ordean Jr. High and graduated from Duluth East High School. She attended the University of Minnesota, Duluth. She graduated with a major in Geography and a minor in French.

Anita went to Oakland City, IN where she taught Geography at Oakland City College for four years. Here she made lifelong friends of Carol Rose and Al. Then she went to Norman, OK as a student at the University of Oklahoma where she earned her Master’s degree and Doctorate in Geography. She was very proud to be Dr. Wepfer. She never liked winter. She drew a line across the country and said she’d only take a job south of that line. She moved to Carrollton, GA where she taught Geography at West Georgia College for 13 years. Due to health reasons, she retired in 1990 and returned home to Superior, WI.

In 1956 while living in Michigan, her family purchased a cabin on Round Lake in Hayward, WI. Summers were spent there. The cabin was remodeled, and added onto and became home. Her family moved to Hayward year-round in 1998.

Anita was smart, kind, caring, loving and generous. Anita loved living at the lake and had many great memories. Time with friends was special. She liked swimming, spending time on the water and watching sunsets year-round. She loved game nights with friends. She especially loved music and playing her piano. Over the years she painted, made beautiful, beaded jewelry and crafts. A special joy was buying potted plants to put on the deck railing for the summer.

Anita was preceded in death by her parents Aldor and Marian Wepfer, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins along with many friends.

She is survived by her sister Kay Wepfer. She is also survived by special cousin Nancy Doschadis, cousin Bob Dauplaise, cousin’s daughter Lisa Turner along with great friends Jim and Sue Silesky, Mark and Barbara Waterston and Eldon and Daphne Bevill and many other wonderful friends.

A private service will be held.
