In Memory of Earl V. Schwartzhoff
Earl Vincent Schwartzhoff, age 92, of Hayward, WI passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at the Hayward Area Memorial Hospital.
He was born on July 19, 1930 in Wabasha, MN, the son of Vincent and Rose (Tomashek) Schwartzhoff.
He was raised by his grandparents, Margaret and Joseph Schwartzhoff in Cook’s Valley near Kellogg, MN. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Eyrleen Ann “Nook” Lehnertz, on October 11, 1952 in Fayetteville, NC.
Earl proudly served his country as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army as a Sergeant at Fort Bragg, NC. In 1954, Nook and Earl moved to Plainview, MN where they lived until moving to Hayward in 2011. He was a 50-year member of the Wm. Allen Legion Post 179. He had a long fulfilling career as a heavy equipment operator for Ames Construction in Burnsville, MN. Earl was a proud and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Eyrleen “Nook” Schwartzhoff of Hayward; his sister, Judy Jackson of Anchorage, Alaska; son, Randy (B.J.) Schwartzhoff of Hayward; his granddaughters, Jenna Schwartzhoff of West Port, NY, and Britta (Kyle Hoffman) Schwartzhoff of Hudson, WI; his great-granddaughters, Ansa Melewski, and Leena and Evren Hoffman; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by his brothers, Jerome Schwartzhoff and Jim Cronk, and his sister, Bonita Schwartzhoff.
A committal service with military honors will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, July 13, 2023 at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI. A celebration of life will follow at Lehman’s Supper Club, 2911 S Main Street in Rice Lake, WI.
