In Memory of Edward C. McManus

September 29, 1952 - November 22, 2025

Edward “Buster” Charles McManus, age 73, of Barron passed away on Saturday, November 22.

Ed, known as “Buster” to only family was born on September 29, 1952 in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

He was a Vietnam Vet – served in the US Navy as a sonar technician. He worked many years at the Barron County Courthouse as a “maintenance custodial technician” (better than a janitor), and later at the St. Croix Casino as a slot technician.

At 73, he was an absolute child at heart, and a very “punny” guy. He was a Trekkie, Whovian, and avid Star Wars nerd. He loved putting things together such as Legos and model cars, sometimes constructing his own models out of leftover spare pieces. He also enjoyed online gaming, such as World of Warcraft and Start Trek Online.

Although a total sci-fi fan, he had a love for the Food Network and loved watching the Hallmark Channel with Valerie and tolerated her enjoyment of mystery movies. He had a way of charming people with his odd sense of humor, and always tried to see the positive in everything. He and his fancy fluffy pajama pants will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

Ed is survived by his patient and loving wife, Valerie; son, Matthew; daughter, Sativa; brother, Aubry (Tina) McManus; sisters, Carol Anton, Diana (Bob) Jarnutowski and Dona (Crystal) Lopes; as well as nieces and nephews. Also, by his beloved 15 year old fur baby, Little Miss.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Clementine McManus; and his first wife, Elvis McManus.

A visitation will be held on Monday, December 1, 2025 at Rausch and Steel Funeral Home in Barron from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in the spring.
