In Memory of Edward Stensland

January 3, 1929 - September 20, 2020

On January 3, 1929, Edward (Ed) was born on the family farm in Gordon, Wisconsin. His parents, Edward and Tillie Stensland certainly would have been delighted to have known the remarkable man that he became!

Ed proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1950-1954. During this time, he married the love of his life, Doris (Drolett) on February 25, 1952. For the first year and a half of his service, he was stationed at the Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida, and was later transferred to Burtonwood, England where Doris joined him for the remaining two and a half years of his service.

Upon return from the military, Ed worked for Archer Daniel Midland Co. During the latter part of his thirty-eight-year tenure, he built their home in Gordon, and retired shortly thereafter.

Ed was a gentle man who loved life, and enjoyed the beauty of nature. He liked to walk in the woods with one of his faithful dogs, feed his birds at the “Supper Tree”, making sure that they had fresh water in their birdbath, or just simply watch deer gracefully bound across the field.

Ed was always tinkering on one of his many cars, or doing some home improvement project. He could fix or build most anything. His resume of talent and craftmanship were unmatched.

He loved his family beyond measure, and he was deeply devoted to them. He was their provider, and their protector!

His greatest passion and love were for Jesus Christ. If he were here today, he would tell all of us with that dazzling sparkle in his eyes, that Jesus made the difference in his life, and that it was Jesus that made him the wonderful man that we all knew and loved so much.

Though we will miss you immensely, we will never say good-bye! For you see, our cherished memories of you will live on in the depths of our hearts as we forever remember the amazing man that you were. All of the words of wisdom, love, and compassion that you imparted to us, will live on through all of the generations that follow. Never to be forgotten are your resounding words of, “Let’s have a word of prayer!” Truly, you will always be the Patriarch of our family!

Ed was preceded in death by his daughter, Yvette Johnson, and, also his grandson, John P. Dragoo. Edward will be forever loved and honored by his beloved wife, Doris Stensland, along with their children, Charlett Maceira, Edward R. Stensland, Teresa Elmore (Jon), Connie Moran (Tim), and Lee Johnson. His grandchildren, great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends will also fondly carry his precious memory in their hearts.
