In Memory of Edwin A. Wichelmann Jr.
Edwin Wichelmann Jr., 68, one of a kind man, that was kind, caring and willing to help anyone, went to his Heavenly home on Sunday, July 20, 2025 after an awful battle with cancer. He was at home surrounded by loved ones when he passed. He was the 2nd child of 6 born to Edwin Sr. and Pauline (Carlson) Wichelmann.
Ed graduated from Cumberland High School in 1977 and went to live with his sister Karen in Virginia to work on a tug boat. In 1979, he moved in with his other sister Kathy and her husband Rich in Deronda. He worked in Osceola at Northern Metals where he met his wife Marsha in 1978. Ed and Marsha were married November 29, 1980 at East Lincoln Emanuel Church in Amery. They built a home in Amery, and not long after, their daughter Amy was born on September 26, 1987. Amy married in 2008, and 2 grandchildren were born, Chasity and Jacob Flug. Ed adored his grandchildren and took them under his wing like they were his own.
Ed worked in carpentry, Wanderoos Cheese Factory, F & A Dairy, and then went to work at Phillips Medisize in New Richmond for over 20 years and retired from there in 2019. Though he only got to enjoy retirement for a short 6 years, he loved spending time deer hunting with his daughter Amy, grandkids, and family—it was one of his favorite things and he never missed a season except for his wedding day. He also loved riding his motorcycle and restoring a motorcycle he received from his brother-in-law, Stosh Moe. He and his cousin, Jon Leisch, bought a cabin with 40 acres up in Dairyland. Sadly there was a fire at the cabin and it burned down, but it was later rebuilt. Ed spent many joyful times with family 4 wheeling, hunting, fishing, whole family pig roasts, and trips to Duluth. Ed was in the Amery Snowmobile Club and loved snowmobiling with his wife Marsha, daughter Amy, Brandon, grandkids, family and friends—especially Jim and Sam Goodwin. He loved country music (the old, actual country music) and listening to it in his shop. Ed liked taking hunting trips to Wyoming with Jon, and in the summers, Ed and family loved to go camping out west—they did it for many years and made many unforgettable memories.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Karen Jones and Lillian Lee; nieces, Jessi Scherber and Sunshine Schmitz; and father and mother-in-law, Forest and Mary Clark.
Ed is survived by his wife, Marsha; daughter, Amy (Brandon) and grandchildren, Chasity and Jacob; sisters, Kathey Moe and Celica (Scott) Johnson; brother, Steve Wichelmann; and many nieces and nephews.
We would like to thank the Adoray Hospice team, Williamson-White Funeral Home, and Jonathon Goodwin for all of their kind and caring help with Ed in his end of life journey.
Ed will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends. As he left his legacy behind, he also left holes in our hearts.
There will be a private family service at a later date with a burial at the Amery Cemetery.
