Elaine Margaret Johnson, 84, of Shell Lake died Saturday, July 9, 2022 at Indianhead Medical Center.

She was born July 2, 1938 in Bayfield, WI to Wilfred T and Esther (Mc Cutcheon) Herbert.

She was married in Oulu, WI at the Evangelical Lutheran Church on August 2, 1958, to the love of her life Fred Johnson.

Elaine earned her Master’s Degree and became a Special Education Teacher. She loved being able to make positive impact on the lives of the children who came into her classroom.

During their retirement years Elaine and Fred enjoyed traveling and happily lived in San Antonio and Alamo, Texas. While there they made many fond friends. They desired to move back to Shell Lake to be closer to their family. Elaine loved being a wife, mom, grandma and great grandma.

Elaine’s faith was her driving force, especially after Fred became a deacon. She was a talented basket weaver, quilter, gardener, and made a huge impact on the lives of everyone who had the honor of getting to know her. She will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her husband, Fred Johnson; children: Fred (Megan) Johnson and Wendy (Don) Kendzior; grandchildren: Ashley, Danielle, Mitchell, and Emily; four great grandchildren: Bella, Frankie, Violet, and Ann; siblings: Patricia, Beverly, Tom, and Mary; and many other dear family and friends. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday, July 18, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Shell Lake with Father Phil Juza officiating. Burial will be in East Farmington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10-11 AM.
