In Memory of Ellis B. Amdall
Ellis Amdall, age 109, lifelong Barron County resident, passed away on December 18, 2025 at Monroe Manor in Barron. Currently, Ellis was the oldest living male resident in Wisconsin.
He was born October 12, 1916, to Andrew and Mildred (Keyes) Amdall. He was a hardworking farmer for fifty years, preferring Guernsey cows.
He married June Thorsbakken on December 5, 1943, in Story City, Iowa. They had seven children together. June passed in 1972. Ellis Married Betty Litwiller in 1982 in Michigan.
Ellis first and foremost loved God. He found joy and comfort in attending church and studying the Bible. His Christian values touched all around him through his kindness, compassion, and generosity of spirit.
He was a perpetually curious man and lifelong student of the world. He enjoyed reading and often referenced his much-loved encyclopedias. He became a prolific quilter after retirement, and gifted many blankets to friends, family and charities. He loved hunting agates and arrowheads, birdwatching, and engaging with the natural world.
Ellis is survived by his wife, Betty; children, Steven of Barron, Elizabeth of Seattle, WA, Joel of Menomonie, Ruth (John) Lasswell of Stillwater, MN, Loren (Cathy) of Hillsdale and Kristi (Dave) Blythe of Kalamazoo, MI; grandchildren, Holly, April, Nathan, Aaron, Leah, Paul, Debi, Erin, Drew, Matthew, Emily; and many great-grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, June; siblings, Marvel (George) Howard, twin, Emmett (Alma), Laurence (Beatrice); son, Paul; granddaughter, Andrea; and daughter-in-law, Marlene.
A funeral service for Ellis will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at the Barron Mennonite Church. A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 8 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Rausch and Steel Funeral Home in Barron and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday morning. Burial will be at Wayside Cemetery in Barron.
Memorials may be donated to the Barron Mennonite Church.
