In Memory of Erma Lane

December 28, 1927 - May 8, 2020

Erma Jean Lane of Frederic passed away May 8, 2020 at Frederic Nursing & Rehab in WI. Erma was 92 years old.

Erma was born to William and Inez (Blodgett) Shutt December 28, 1927 in Webster, WI. She attended school in Webster along with her siblings, Myrtle, Richard, Earl, Catherine, Wilma, Mary, Phyllis and Dennis.

She married Willard Lane at the Pine County courthouse on September 16, 1944. They had four children, Laura, Greg, Tim, and Carrie.

Willard and Erma lived most of their lives in the Trade Lake, Centuria, Frederic area but in 1957 they, along with their children, ventured out to Sky Ranch Resort in Oakhurst California. Out there Erma was a cook and Willard was a stone mason. In 1962 they bought a farm in rural Frederic, WI. Willard and Erma enjoyed many years at the farm entertaining family and friends with games of badminton and croquet.

Erma worked at the telephone company as an operator while in school. Later in life she worked for the U.S. post office in Frederic for 25 years.

Something Erma enjoyed very much was creation: walking in her woods, bird watching, hunting for mushrooms, flowers and berries were some of her hobbies. She was a skilled gardener, both house and yard were full of plants and flowers. She made quilts for each of her grandchildren and baby blankets for her great-grandchildren. Erma was an avid reader; she could be found most winter days in her chair near her woodstove reading. Another winter activity she enjoyed was cross country skiing with her family and friends.

Erma was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1962. She felt it was important to teach people from the Bible and continued to talk to people about the Bible throughout her life.

Erma was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, friend and will be missed by many.

Preceded in death by her husband, Willard Eugene Lane; daughter, Laura Jeanne Coddington (Lane); sisters, Myrtle Berger (Shutt), Catherine St Mane (Shutt) and Norma Phillis Wurst (Shutt); brothers, Richard, Earl and Dennis Shutt.

Survived by her children, Greg (Christy) Lane of Luck, Tim (Linda) Lane of Canon City, CO, Carrie (Lloyd) Lundeen of Frederic; her siblings, Wilma (Jerold) Jensen of Huntsville, AL, Mary (Garlon) Armstrong of Maplewood, MN; eleven grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
