In Memory of Esther Olson


December 29, 1929 - March 1, 2019

Esther Olson, age 89, a lifelong resident of the Spooner area, died at her home on Friday, March 1, 2019.

Esther was born on December 29, 1929, at her family’s home in Lampson to parents Walter and Mina (Olson) Haynes.  She attended and graduated the 8th grade at the Lampson School.  Esther worked in child and home care for the Hubin family, Neitge family in Minong, and for the Rasmussen family who owned Lakewoods Resort in Cable.  On December 12, 1951, she was united in marriage to Norman Olson at the Faith Lutheran Church Parsonage in Spooner.  Two months after their marriage, Norman was drafted into the US Army during the Korean War.  While Norman was in the Army, Esther lived with her parents until Norman was discharged in November of 1953.  Shortly after his return home, they purchased the land in which they farmed and built the home that they live in yet today.  Esther was accomplished at crocheting afghans, doilies, tablecloths, angels, Easter Baskets, and doll clothes.  She loved to play cards, fish, garden, go on picnics, bake and cook.  She attended Faith Lutheran Church in her earlier years, but later attended the Anah Church near their home. 

Esther is survived by her husband Norman, children: Jean (Jim) Christner of Janesville, WI, Steven (Jean) Olson of Spooner, Kathy Miller of Janesville, WI, Gary (Lisa) Olson of Springbrook, WI, Linda (Steve) Snider of Rice Lake, WI, 13 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, sister Alice Watts of Spooner, WI, and several nephews and nieces.

Esther is preceded in death by her parents and several brothers and sisters.

A Celebration of Esther’s life will be held on Friday, March 8, 2019, at 2pm, at the Spooner Funeral Home with Pastor Dean Locke officiating.  A gathering of friends and family will be held on Friday, at the funeral home from 1-2pm.  An interment will occur at a later date.
