
In Memory of Evelyn M. (Mathison) Haag
Evelyn M. Haag, age 92, of Hayward, WI, passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at Waters Edge Care Center in Hayward.
Evelyn Marjorie was born August 11, 1932, in Woodville, WI, the daughter of Mikkel and Ella Mae (Jones) Mathison. She was raised in Woodville and graduated from high school there. She continued her education at the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire. While attending college, Evie met Harold Haag. Evie and Harold were married on June 14, 1952, in Woodville. Together they made their home and raised their children in Janesville, WI where they lived for 40 years.
In 1972, Evie and Harold purchased a three-season cabin in the Moose Lake area where they spent their summers taking in the beauty of the north woods. After retiring from the Janesville School District, Evie and Harold purchased a home on the Tiger Cat Flowage in 2000. Evie loved her home and the view overlooking the lake. She also enjoyed shopping for antiques, flea markets, knitting, reading and attending events at Big Top Chautauqua. Her buttermilk pancakes were always a family favorite along with her variety of Christmas cookies.
Evie is survived by her three children, Mike (Wendy) Haag of Janesville, WI, Jim Haag of Milton, WI, Sue (Bob) Tietz of Waunakee, WI; five grandchildren, Dan Haag, Jenna (Doug) Martin, Natalie, Paul and Andrew Tietz; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; brothers, Vernon and Don Mathison; sister, Betty Karastes; daughter-in-law, Connie Haag.
A private interment will be held for Evelyn at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Beaver Brook Township, Washburn County, WI.
