In Memory of Francie (Hubbard) Schulz

December 18, 1935 - March 24, 2025

Francie (Hubbard) Schulz, age 89, of Webster, WI, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2025 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She spent all but the last three weeks of her life at her home in the loving care of her husband, John, and thus received her heart’s desire to live out her last years at home. Francie was preceded in death by her parents, Fran and Lorry (Stuart) Hubbard, and her brother-in-law, Dave Kelby. Francie is survived by her husband John Schulz, sister Jinny Kelby, children Peggy Bennett, Dick (Maureen) Bennett, Tom (Pam) Schulz, Mike (Kim) Schulz, Sue (Jeff) Hilgers, along with nine beloved grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Francie was born on December 18, 1935 in Minneapolis, MN. One little known fact about Francie is that her parents named her “Margaret” at birth. For unknown reasons, they changed her name to “Frances” a few weeks later and a new birth certificate was issued. “Must have been due to a pushy grandparent,” Francie would always say. Her original birth certificate is still among her treasured childhood mementos.

Francie was a loving wife, sister, parent, and grandparent. Among her interests and passions were teaching, knitting, family genealogy, history, her West Highland White Terriers (and John’s Labradors also!), and of course her kids and grandkids. Francie loved to teach Sunday school. Her love for children and teaching led her to return to college in her early 50s. She graduated suma cum laude from Crown College on June 7, 1991 with a teaching degree in elementary education. Francie went on to teach at private Christian schools for several years where she was a beloved and favorite fun-loving teacher among her students, their parents, and her peers. Among many fond memories, her students and grandchildren remember well the “Pig Out” celebrations she periodically planned for them, a fun-filled time of “pigging out” on a menagerie of sweets.

Her faith in Jesus as her personal savior was foundational in Francie’s life. She became a Christian at a camp as a teenager and always saved the bible she’d been given. Francie readily admitted that she gradually fell away from her faith for a time, but later in life renewed that faith and prospered in her relationship with the Lord. Francie took part in two short-term mission trips to a fly-in Ojibwe First Nation community in Fort Hope, Ontario with her daughter Peggy, and friends where she helped teach bible school to the children. Her life verse is John 8:32: “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Memorial service is Saturday, June 7, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Crossroads Christian Church, 28509 Co Rd H, Webster, WI 54893. Pastor Tom Kelby will officiate. The family warmly welcomes attendees to join them for lunch at the church immediately after the service.
