In Memory of Gary G. Taylor
Gary G. Taylor, age 68, of LCO, passed away peacefully Monday, December 12, 2022, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King.
Gary was born on August 31, 1954, in Milwaukee, WI to Evelyn Isham and Donald Taylor.
He was the eldest and most protective sibling. He lived his early years in Chicago, Illinois while spending summers on the reservation. The family moved to Reserve in 1968, where he attended St. Francis Mission School. Gary attended high school at Flandreau Indian School, and HHS until being encouraged to pursue his artistic dreams at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Gary was an intelligent, handsome, talented musician and artist. He played many instruments including the drums, guitar, and even the accordion. After high school, his quest for knowledge led him to UW Superior. Gary was a courageous young man in 1973 and enlisted in the US NAVY. During his tour of duty, he was injured serving as a Helmsman on USS Benjamin Stoddert. Gary returned home to his family in Round Lake a proud US Veteran with an honorable discharge as a different man. His love of the arts remained, and he continued creating for most of his life, filling notebooks of drawings, coordinates, and building model cars and planes. He loved music and XM radio for the Elvis Station and knew all the words to an endless collection of songs. He kept up with the latest technology and loved to follow his loved one’s travels all over the globe. His life by the lake was peaceful with his binoculars, art, and unique reads, as well as being an avid scanner listener. Gary was in the care of his mother Evelyn until her passing in 2013. They spent their time visiting family and friends, going to casinos, and attending powwows all over the country. Gary was always present at community events, meeting new people, and catching up with old friends. He had the most brilliantly humbling honesty that brought his loved ones many laughs and smiles. Gary was a caring brother, son, and uncle.
He will be missed tremendously by his surviving siblings Muriel Shirriff (Jay), Becky Taylor, Larry Taylor, and Sirella Ford, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; and brother Michael on a Bike.
