Gayle Marilyn Hughes, age 91, of Turtle Lake, WI passed away on Thursday, February 6, surrounded by her family in Menomonie, WI. She was born July 31, 1933 in Turtle Lake, WI to Frank and Mildred (Ritzaur) Peterson.

She was married in Toledo, OR on February 9, 1952 to Neil Hughes, who preceded her in death on May 17, 2005. Over the course of their marriage, the two moved across the country numerous times from one military base to another.

Gayle was a beloved mom, grandma and great-grandma, who loved to keep her mind busy. An avid reader, she flew through books as fast as you could recommend them, and kept sharp crocheting and doing word searches. Living in such close proximity to the casino, she took a great liking to the royal treatment they gave her, and used her trips there as her social outings each week.

Gayle meant so much to her family, and they will feel her absence greatly.

She is survived by son, Steve (Robin) Hughes of Surprise, AZ; daughter, Pamela Johnson of Menomonie, WI; grandchildren, Jennifer Wilkening, Richie Hetrick, Tom Johnson and Courtney Johnson; great-grandchildren, Shianne (Dustin) Armstrong, Sierra York, Gavin Phillips, MacKenzie Illa, Caden Illa, Aidenn Scanlon, Jada Johnson, Trinity Krueger, Ryder Hetrick, Aaron Johnson, Dahlton Johnson and McKayla Hoff; 10 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Don Peterson of Amery.

Gayle was preceded in death by her husband, Neil; son, Ron Hughes; grandchild, Richard Johnson; parents, Frank and Mildred Peterson; siblings, Darrell (Helen) Peterson, Gary (Sally) Peterson, and Janet (Loren) Hegeman.
