Harold “John” Eggert, 70, of Barron, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 18, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones.

John was born on January 13, 1956, in Dodgeville, Wisconsin. When he was about a year old, his family moved back to the Silver Creek area, where he spent most of his childhood. He graduated from Clayton High School in 1974 while working at Twin Town Cheese Factory. After graduation, he attended college in Rice Lake while living in Barron and began working at the Barron Greenhouse.

In 1978, John purchased Glenwood Greenhouse, beginning what would become a lifelong passion. While working the dunk tank at the Prairie Farm Fair, he met Tracy Wright. They married in 1979 and built both a family and a business together. They welcomed their son, Luke, in 1980, followed by their daughter, Amanda, in 1983.

For many years, John and Tracy worked side by side, growing their greenhouse, florist, landscaping, and distribution business while raising their family.

After Tracy’s tragic passing in 2000, John faced one of the most difficult chapters of his life. Eventually, the family business closed in 2008. Around that time, John met Linda LaPora, who brought new happiness and companionship into his life. Together they shared many wonderful years, traveling the country, taking the scenic route whenever they could, and creating countless memories.

John worked several different jobs throughout his life before finding a niche as an electronics recycler, carefully dismantling electronics to recover valuable metals. He could often be found in his basement for hours working on his latest project. He liked to describe himself as “a jack of all trades and a master of none,” but those who knew him understood he was incredibly capable and always willing to lend a hand.

If you needed help, John was often there before you even had to ask. He was a great listener, loved a good conversation, and always had a joke or a bit of sarcasm ready to make people smile. His kindness, generosity, and sense of humor will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Eleanore and Harold “Ab” Eggert; his first wife, Tracy Wright Eggert; his grandson, Chance Schroeder; and his nephew, Eric Frisle.

He is survived by his loving wife, Linda LaPora Eggert; his son, Luke Eggert (Scott Schmid) of Amery; his daughter, Amanda Eggert of Glenwood City; his grandchildren, Charlee Schroeder, Logan Roth of Amery, and Shaylynn Reyes of Chetek; his great-granddaughter, Milena Getchell of Chetek; along with many other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate John’s life on Thursday, July 30, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Rausch Steel Funeral Home in Barron.
