In Memory of Helen A. Rostad


August 18, 1938 - October 11, 2024

Helen Ann Rostad, 86, of Mason City, Iowa passed away on October 11, 2024, the family is sad to announce.

Helen was born August 18, 1938 in Georgetown Township, WI. She was the youngest daughter of Edward and Effie (Mann) Carlson. She grew up in the Georgetown area going to a one room country school. She was confirmed May 4, 1952. She graduated from Milltown High School. She married James Rostad, at Georgetown Lutheran Church, on August 3, 1960. They relocated to St. Croix, Wisconsin, then moved to Lake Elmo Minnesota and later moved to Shell Rock, Iowa. Where they settled and raised their 3 boys.  She worked at the Shell Rock Library and Economart Locker until she began driving truck alongside Jim, her husband for 20 years. She left truck driving in 1998 when Jim passed away. She then worked for Larrabee Center for 15 years. She retired in 2015

She loved being a grandmother and great grandmother and spent as much time as she could with them. She was an avid reader and had many books. She was a member of Sons of Norway. She loved volunteering at the Shell Rock Food Pantry until she was no longer physically able to do it.

She was predeceased by: her husband James; her siblings, Evelyn (Ed) Foster, Edna (Clayton) White, Glenn Carlson, Gene (Gloria) Carlson, Irma (Howard) Larsen, Bud (Barb) Carlson and Morris Carlson; and her parents, Edward and Effie.

She is survived by her children, Bill Rostad (Susan), Bob Rostad, and Ken Rostad; her grandchildren, David Rostad, Stephanie Miller (Todd), Lindsey Rostad, and Seth Rimrodt (Kira); her great grandchildren, Spencer, Dylan and Noah. Her in-laws Joan Carlson, Dean (Barb) Rostad, Carole Logalbo, and Jeanne (Jerome) Dolezal. She is also survived by many friends, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Georgetown Lutheran Church, Fox Creek, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at the Georgetown Cemetery.
