In Memory of James 'Jess' Miller


April 30, 1931 - October 11, 2024

James “Jess” Miller Age 93, of Rice Lake, WI, died Friday, October 11, 2024 in Rice Lake.

Jess was born on April 30, 1931 in Rice Lake to Walter and Alice (Gavin) Miller. He graduated from Rice Lake High School. Jess was married to Nancy Whitney on September 3, 1955 in Rice Lake. He was the plant manager for Moores Foods/McCain Foods in Rice Lake for many years. He was on the Barron County Board, Airport Commission Board, State of Wisconsin Committee Board, a KC Member, a Rice Lake Elk’s Member, started the St. Joseph Athletic Committee, St Joseph Catholic Church Board, a referee for over 25 years for Basketball and Football, and also coached fast pitch and basketball. He enjoyed playing fast pitch, bowling, golfing and being with his family.

He is survived by 3 sons, Jeff (Barb) Miller, Steve Miller (Kathryn Lammers) and Mike (Michelle) Miller; 7 grandchildren, Christopher (Tara) Miller, Alex (Kim) Miller, Aric (Mara) Miller, Sarah (Tony) Rohde, Marissa Miller, Callan Miller and Anna (Jack) Elfstrom; 10 great grandchildren and number 11 on the way, Preston Rohde, McKenzie Miller, Parker Rohde, Leo Miller, Sage Miller, Madilyn Miller, Carter Miller, Cooper Miller, Molly Miller, Brooks Miller and baby Elfstrom arriving in November ; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Miller; a sister, Eileen Margelofsky.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM Thursday, October 24, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rice Lake, Father Isaiah Schick officiating, with interment in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rice Lake. Visitation will be held from 4-7PM Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake and for one hour prior to the Funeral Service at the Church. There will be an Elk’s Memorial Service at 7PM Wednesday, October 23, 2024.

The family would like to thank Woodstone Senior Living, Dr. Stephen Holthaus, Marshfield Medical Center Hospice of Rice Lake and Appleyard’s Home for Funerals.

 In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to the Rice Lake Elk’s Lodge or Shriner Children’s Twin Cities.
