In Memory of James R. Sigmund
Jim Sigmund, age 81, a resident of Spooner, died on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at Spooner Health.
James was born on June 12, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois, to parents Victor and Theresa (Anton) Sigmund. As a child, the family moved to the Town of Madge where the family farmed for a time.
Jim attended and graduated from Spooner High School in the spring of 1964. He immediately signed up for the US Navy and was inducted in the fall of 1964. Jim served a total of four years, almost all of that time overseas or being of sea service, before being honorably discharged in July of 1968.
While in the Navy, Jim served as a cook, which lead him to show love through cooking for his family. In 1965, he was united in marriage to Linda Swinderman in Iowa, and although later divorced, two children were born to this marriage. After his discharge, the family lived in Iowa, until 1990 when he moved to the Cities and met Linda Sheldon, whom he married in 1991, and added her son Andy to his family. In the fall of 1991, the couple moved to Spooner, where they happily lived on Rocky Ridge Lake.
Jim had a passion for fishing and was an active member of the Spooner Wesleyan Church.
Jim retired at 55 enabling him and Linda to travel. They volunteered for the National Forest Service across the southern states for several years. Jim loved pulling his 5th wheel with his Chevy Silverado until his health wouldn’t allow them to continue.
Jim loved gardening and sharing his bounty with others. He loved having his grandchildren close these last nine years. He took them for many rides on the pontoon or his side by side and of course took them fishing! He was able to enjoy family dinners, with the last one being June 25th with a little fishing thrown in.
Jim is survived by his wife of 35 years, Linda Sheldon, children: Mark (Kathy) Sigmund, Michelle (Martyn) Adams, Andrew (Autumn) Sheldon, 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, brothers: Robert (Mary) Sigmund, Dennis (Vicki) Sigmund, and Allen (Nancy) Sigmund.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Rita Schreiber and Marlene Sigmund, sister-in-law Judy Sigmund and brother-in-law Ron Lewis.
