In Memory of Janet G. Konop


April 4, 1930 - January 15, 2026

Janet Gabriel Konop, age 95, of Haugen, WI, died Thursday, January 15, 2026 in Rice Lake, WI. She was born on April 4, 1930 to Edward and Viola (Morneau) Gabriel at her home farm northeast of Dobie, WI. She attended Our Lady of Lourdes Grade School and graduated from Rice Lake High School in 1948. She was married to Edward Konop on September 6, 1952 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Shortly after their marriage, her husband was drafted into the Army. Following his discharge, they moved to a farm in Haugen.

Janet was an active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Holy Trinity Catholic Women, and received the Pax Christie Award. Janet was also a longtime member of Brunclik-Konop American Legion Auxiliary and the Haugen Senior Center. But most of all Janet was known as a devoted and loving daughter, wife, mother and sister. She made some of the best kolaches ever entered into the Haugen Days Kolache Contest.

She is survived by 4 children, Carol Konop of Haugen, Kenneth (Nancy) Konop of Haugen, Steve (Tandy) Konop of Haugen and Jerry (Sara) Konop of Pleasant Hope, MO; 6 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Charlotte Schwab and Elaine Musil; 3 brothers, Edward Gabriel, Bob (Mary Lou) Gabriel and Dale (Lois) Gabriel; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Edward Konop; her parents, Edward and Viola Gabriel; a brother, Donald Gabriel; sister-in-law, Mary Gabriel and a brother-in-law, Buzz Schwab.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM Wednesday, January 28, 2026, Father Phil Juza officiating, with interment in the Holy Trinity Cemetery in Haugen. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the Funeral Service at the church.
