
In Memory of Janice E. Anderson
Janice Elaine Anderson, 91, of Cumberland, passed away in the early morning hours of September 4, 2025, at Woodstone Memory Care in Rice Lake, Wisconsin.
Janice was born on Mother’s Day, May 13, 1934, to Erin and Minnie Carlson in Grand Rapids, Michigan. After graduating from Comstock Park High School, she attended 2 years at Grand Rapids Junior College in Grand Rapids. She then went on to earn a BA degree in Christian Service from Augustana College in Rock Island, IL in 1958. Janice served as a parish worker at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Bayport, MN and Luther Memorial in Minneapolis, MN. During that time, she served on a Luther League board at Luther Point Bible Camp where she met Norman Anderson. They were married on October 26, 1963, and she settled into life on the Maple Syrup farm near Cumberland, Wisconsin. She was both the secretary and bookkeeper for the business, keeping meticulous financial records.
Janice had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and was very active at Trinity Lutheran Church in McKinley leading Sunday School, Couples Club, Women of the ELCA (WELCA), choir, playing the organ and countless other activities. She was involved at the Synod level of WELCA even serving as president. Jan enjoyed music, singing in Sweet Adelines, the Cumberland Music Federation and even joining an informal string group with her autoharp. She taught piano lessons in her home for years. In later years, she enjoyed traveling with Norm and often expressed how lucky she was to have visited so many places around the world. She will be remembered for her encouragement, kindness and willingness to serve others.
Janice Anderson is proceeded in death by parents - Erin and Minnie Carlson; siblings- Edwin Carlson, Lorraine Giller (Dave); Sister-in-law - Sarah Olsen (Alan); nephew - Richard Giller; and many dear friends. She is survived by husband - Norman Anderson; children - Steven (Alison) Anderson, Christine Anderson (Paul Sanders); grandchildren - Ben Anderson, Mya Anderson; brother - Wendell (Rosemary) Carlson; many nieces and nephews and their children.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church, McKinley, Wisconsin. 10am visitation, 11am service officiated by Rev. Diane Norstad with a lunch to follow.
Memorials may be given to the Trinity Lutheran Church Endowment Fund.
