He was born on February 18, 1930 in Turtle Lake, WI to William and Cecelia (Eischen) Marshall.

John was married to Geraldine Gagner on August 16, 1969 in Rice Lake and took on the role as father to Jill, Tom and Rick. He worked for Stokley’s in Cumberland, Jerome’s in Barron and Brunettes Box Factory in Rice Lake. Family always came first for John and he would be there in a blink of an eye to help out anyone in need. John had a special way for all animals and they were drawn to him for the love that he shared. He is survived by a daughter, Julie (Larry) Schreiner; 3 stepchildren, Jill Walters, Tom (Barb) Gagner and Rick Gagner; 2 grandchildren, Katelyn Hensel and John Marshall Peterson; 2 step grandchildren, Steven and Brian Walters; a step great granddaughter; a half brother, Marvin Holmstrom; 2 half sisters, Darlene Peterson and Sonja Holmstrom; a special friend who he looked at as a daughter, Mary Sheman; many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Marshall; a grandson, Justin Marshall; his faithful canine dog, Chrissy; his parents; siblings, Richard Marshall, Lena Holmstrom, Charles Marshall, Leroy Marshall, Lucille Halverson, Delores Lillie and Lorraine Richter; half siblings, Iver Holmstrom and Betty White.

A celebration of his life will be hosted by his daughter and granddaughter from 2-6PM Saturday, February 18, 2023 at the Rice Lake Senior Center. Graveside Services will be held at a later date at Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in Haugen, WI.

Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake is assisting the family with the arrangements.
