Joseph L. Tschida, age 76, of Birchwood, WI, died Sunday, September 22, 2024 from complications of recent heart surgery.

Joe was born in St. Paul, MN, the son of the late Benedict and Mary Francis (Sample) Tschida. He grew up in West St. Paul, MN and attended grade school at St. Joseph’s. After graduating from Henry Sibley High School, he attended St. Paul’s TVI, graduating in 1968. Joe was hired by the Minneapolis Public Works Department in 1968 and later in 1986 transferred to the Minneapolis Board of Education where he retired from in 2010. Joe’s career spanned 40 plus years of public service.

In 1975, he met and married Kathleen Ann Luhman and one son, Daniel Joseph, was born in 1981. In 2016, the family was blessed with a beautiful granddaughter, Isabelle Deborah, who sadly passed away in November 2017. In June 2019, the family welcomed grandson, Ethan James. Over the years, Joe and Kathy made their homes in Forest Lake, MN and owned a home for 45 years on Bone Lake, near Luck, WI. In 2018, they moved to Tagalong Golf Resort & Condominiums on Red Cedar Lake, near Birchwood, WI. Winters were spent as “snowbirds” with friends in Myrtle Beach, SC where they owned a beachfront condo for 15 years.

After Kathy retired in 2013, cruise ship travel took them to almost every island in the Caribbean, Panama Canal, Bahamas, Canada, Alaska and domestic travel to Seattle, Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon and many of America’s National Parks. Back home, when Joe wasn't at Menards or building a new project, he enjoyed many years of hunting and fishing, wheeling, and especially enjoyed going to Canada each spring for the Canadian Fishing Opener with his brother, Steve.

Joe is survived by wife Kathleen, son Daniel Joseph (Katlyn), grandson Ethan James, as well as brother Steve (Pattie), and sisters Geraldine and Margaret. Following cremation, we will gather at Tagalong in the Spring to enjoy memories and celebrate Joe's talents and life.
