In Memory of Joyce E. Balicki

August 18, 1950 - May 14, 2026

Joyce Elaine (Mellerud) Balicki, a beloved figure known for her vibrant spirit and warm hospitality, passed away on May 14, 2026, at Amery Hospital in Amery, Wisconsin. Born on August 18, 1950, in Wisconsin, Joyce's life was a full tapestry of love, family, and community.

Graduating in 1968, Joyce embarked on a journey that would see her become the proud owner of both a bar and a café — spots where laughter flowed just as freely as the drinks. She had a knack for making everyone feel welcome, a quality that made her establishments the heart of many conversations and memories.

Joyce was a true outdoor enthusiast; she loved camping, which gave her a chance to unwind and connect with nature. When she wasn’t out exploring the great outdoors, you could find her sewing or tending her garden, her creativity blooming in threads and petals alike. Family was her anchor and joy, and she cherished every moment spent with her kids, Tammy and Brian (Beckey), as well as her stepchildren Lisa and Mark.

Joyce’s family expanded with pride and delight through her grandchildren Dustin (Lindsey), Miranda, and Kali, and her many great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to her later years. She also shared a special bond with her brother Rick (Laurie), who stood by her side through life's ups and downs.

Joyce's journey wasn’t without its hardships. She was preceded in death by her first husband Bill Quaheim, whom she married in June 1969 and who passed away in 1977. Later, she married Jerry Balicki in April 1979, and stood beside him until his passing in 2012. She was also survived by the memories of her parents, Henry and Mary Mellerud, and her brothers Michael and Steven, who all have passed on.

Joyce Elaine Balicki leaves behind a legacy filled with warmth, kindness, and a zest for life that touched everyone who knew her. She will be remembered fondly by her living family, friends, and all who had the pleasure to cross paths with her. Though she’s no longer with us, the stories, laughter, and love she inspired continue to live on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, stepchildren, brother, and great-grandchildren. Here’s to Joyce — a wonderful woman who knew how to make a place feel like home.
