Judy May Effertz, age 64 of Cumberland went to meet her Lord and Savior on Monday, March 30, 2026 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Barron, surrounded by her loving family and coworkers after a resilient two-year bout with cancer.

Judy was born on May 31,1961 to Harold and JoAnn (Kolstad) Catlin, and grew up in the Turtle Lake area, graduating in the Class of 1979. She was blessed with three daughters, Melissa, Christine, and Becca, and would go on to become a Registered Nurse.

Those who knew Judy appreciated her witty sense of humor, contagious laugh, and her compassionate and nurturing soul. She was well known for extending her love with a tray of cookies for any occasion. She was a servant to many, not only in her personal life but also in her nursing career. Her empathetic nature bloomed into a passion for caring for patients and their families during end-of-life care.

Judy's fearless side has shone bright, especially since her diagnosis in 2024. She took it upon herself to make the most of her time between treatments, traveling and pursuing experiences with her grandkids and family. The memories made during that time will forever be treasured.

Above all, she loved her daughters and grandkids; and, as she often shared, she had a profound love for Jesus.

Judy's legacy of love will live on through her daughters, Melissa Armstrong, Christine Hines (Jason), and Becca Effertz (Mitch); grandchildren, Julia, William, Maggie, Kamp, and Sawyer; mother, JoAnn Catlin; three brothers, Dan (Lynn), Dennis and Mike Catlin; her sister Jenny (Eric) Arnes; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by father, Harold Catlin; and brother, Tom Catlin.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, April 4, 2026 at Skinner Funeral Home in Cumberland with Pastor Steve Miller officiating, with an open house visitation two hours prior. A time for sharing and refreshments will take place following the service.
