In Memory of Julaine G. Berglund

September 24, 1939 - February 23, 2024

On February 23, 2024, Julaine Gail Berglund passed away to her heavenly home at the age of 84.

Julaine was born September 24, 1939 to Earl and Doris Katzel and was raised in Isanti, Minnesota. Since her father worked on the railroad, Julaine and her mother would often spend time living with him in various locations in central and northern Minnesota. As a teenager, she began attending Elim Baptist Church in Isanti where she accepted an alter call to surrender her life to Christ. This decision had a significant impact on her parents who would later do the same. She graduated from Cambridge High School and attended the University of Northwestern for a short time. She then worked as a telephone operator in the twin cities for a while. With encouragement from a couple who were friends of both, she began writing to a young man in the US Army named David Berglund who was stationed in Germany in the late 1950’s. Their correspondence continued, and after his return from Germany they finally met in person. They were married a year later on December 9, 1960 and settled on their own dairy farm outside of Amery where they raised their family.

Julaine was very active at Balsam Lutheran Church. She was the organist for over four decades, she played and sang at countless weddings and funerals, was active in the church choir, played music for Sunday school and was involved in many other church activities. Other organizations she was involved with include Homemakers, Polk County Fair, 4H and Farm Bureau. Things that she enjoyed at various times in her life were roller skating, sewing and quilting, sudoku, bingo, puzzles, reading, the Hallmark channel, baking and spending time with family and friends.

Julaine was preceded in death by her husband David of 59 years, her parents Earl and Doris Katzel and her infant brother Jeffrey. She is survived by her children and their families: Scott (Kathy) Berglund, Jeff Berglund, Brent (Lindy) Berglund, Beth (Bill) Hansen; Grandchildren: Nick (Ashley) Berglund, Adam Berglund, Mark Berglund, Amber Hansen, Matt van Druten, Paul Berglund; Great-grandson: Nash Berglund; plus many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Williamson-White Funeral Home (222 Harriman Ave N, Amery, WI) on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 from 4:00-7:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at Balsam Lutheran Church (1115 Mains Crossing Ave, Amery, WI) north of Amery on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at 11:00 am with visitation beginning at 10:00 am at the church.

Julaine’s family would like to give a special thank you to staff members at Golden Age Manor and Adoray Hospice for caring for our mother.
