In Memory of Karen Cline


March 3, 1937 - November 20, 2019

Karen Cline, age 82, of Hayward, WI passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2019.

Karen Cline was born on March 3, 1937 to Harold and Frances Schlieman, weighing in at 11 lbs. 7.5 oz.  During Karen’s grade school years, she joined the girl scouts and was the first in the group to be a senior girl scout in Hayward.  One of the activities the girl scouts learned was nursing and Karen was hired at the Hayward Hospital as a candy striper.  She also sang in the high school choir and was in the Hayward marching band. She played the clarinet and saxophone.  She was a member of the Hayward Saddle Club with her Palomino, Sport.  She married staff sergeant Daniel Cline on July 9, 1964.  He passed away in 1977.  Karen worked for the Sawyer County Jail for many years.  Sherriff Lein appointed her the first female matron in Sawyer County.  Karen enjoyed fishing, hunting, oil painting and playing cards.  She was a member of the civil air patrol as a lieutenant along with two of her children.  She was also a member of the First Congregational Church, where she sang in the choir and she also sang with the Hayward Community Choir for over ten years.  Karen enjoyed going out dancing and kicking up her heels.

Preceding her death were her parents, Harold and Frances Schlieman, her brother Richard (Donna) Schlieman, nephews Paul and Basil, her sisters Lorraine (Joe) Hagan and Jeanne (Earl) Levine, her daughter Kara Jean and her son Harold.

Karen is survived by her daughter Cheryl Cline Rasmussen 0f Rice Lake, WI and Robyn (Jim) Hanson of Mesa, AZ; granddaughter Cara (Mark) Pins of San Juan Capistrano, CA; grandsons Dan (Tracy) Rasmussen of Cable, WI and Brady and Blake Conrad of Mesa; and great granddaughters Alexis and Emma Rasmussen of Cable and Kayla Jameson Conrad of Mesa; and many nieces and nephews.  She will be missed.

A committal service will be held in the spring in Greenwood Cemetery in Hayward.
