Kimberly Ann Appleyard Gilbertson, age 58, of Rice Lake, WI passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, in Eau Claire, WI,surrounded by her loving family. Kim was diagnosed with cancer in early 2020.

Kim was born Sunday, June 19, 1966, in Milwaukee, WI to Patricia (Hasse) and William Appleyard. She moved to Rice Lake with her parents at a young age. She attended Rice Lake schools and graduated from Rice Lake High School in 1984. During high school she was involved in activities such as DECA where she won awards and worked at the Charm Beauty Salon as a part of the DECA program and was a member and captain of the Flag Corp for the Marching Band. Kim went on to Cosmetology School in Eau Claire where she received the skills to open her own Beauty Salon. After receiving her license Kim and Jacqui Schneider bought Jan’s Beauty Villa and changed the name to Cosmetology…Professionally Speaking (CPS). Kim was married to Boyd Gilbertson on June 20, 1987,in Eau Claire, WI. When Jacqui retired from the business Boyd joined Kim as owners of CPS eventually the business was sold to Julie Pich, but Kim continued to serve her clients that she considered all of them her friends at that location up until her cancer diagnosis. Kim was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and School, PEO and any civic organizations where she could lend a helping hand.

Kim is survived by her husband, Boyd Gilbertson; 2 daughters, Ashley Gilbertson of Shoreview, MN and Megan Gilbertson at home; a future son-in-law, Brett Ring; a sister, Krista (Jon) Tillung; and a brother, Kent (Lesley) Appleyard; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jeff (Ann) Gilbertson, Paula (Will) Bathke and Jon (Alissa Aske) Gilbertson; nieces, Kailey Tillung, Barbara Bathke and Anna Gilbertson; nephews, Anders (Dr. Robyn) Gilbertson, Bjorn (Claire) Gilbertson, Jack Bathke, Evan (Lilia) Tillung, Mack Gilbertson and Drew Appleyard; great nieces and nephews; and Godmother to several.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Patti and William Appleyard; in-laws, Ila and Richard Gilbertson; and her grandparents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with burial to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Rice Lake. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 PM Monday at Appleyard’s Home for Funerals, 19 W. Messenger St., Rice Lake, WI and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
